Configuration for Criminal Record Checks

Before you can request Standard and Enhanced DBS checks, you must first complete the DBS Registration section in the admin menu. This creates a link between VettingGateway and our DBS check provider, CBS.

Note

The information on this page is only applicable to organisations who would like to request Standard and/or Enhanced DBS checks, and does not apply to those who only use Basic DBS checks.

Register your organisation

As a User with access to the Admin menu, go to Admin > DBS Registration. You will then need to enter a description of your organisation, and the reason you want to apply for Standard and/or Enhanced DBS checks. This information will help our DBS check provider in understanding why your organisation requires this level of DBS checks for your employees.

Job Positions

You will need to enter each job role or job position at your organisation that requires a Standard or Enhanced DBS check. Clicking the 'Add new Job Positions' button will display a panel containing a series of questions that must be answered regarding the job position you are adding. Our DBS check provider will use this information to determine what level of check is required for that job role.

Once you have completed adding the job roles for your organisation that require Standard or Enhanced DBS checks, click 'Submit'.

Our DBS check provider will then receive the information you entered on this page for their review. While they are reviewing your DBS Registration, a blue information box will be at the top of this page advising you of your registration's status. You can also scroll down to the Job Positions section and confirm if any of your job positions have been approved to request Standard or Enhanced DBS checks.

How long do Standard and Enhanced DBS checks take?

On average, our DBS check provider returns the electronic response for Basic, Standard and Enhanced checks in a few hours. Hardcopy certificate return takes up to 6.5 days on average.

What happens if one of my Job Positions gets rejected?

If one of your Job Positions gets rejected by our DBS check provider you will need to review the requirements of a Standard or Enhanced DBS check and recreate the Job Position to meet the criteria.

Alternatively, you may find that after reviewing the requirements you no longer require a Standard or Enhanced DBS check for that Job Position, in which case you may continue your vetting checks as you would normally.
